The Other Place

Do you dream? Have you ever imagined something impossible? Do you have hopes for the future? Then you’re already on the way to The Other Place.

a.a.s create openings to The Other Place: a collective space of thought or dreams, the space of the future or potential, as well as the collaborative process or assemblage that produces those ideas.

The role of the audience is integral, so that their participation determines how projects develop from a given starting point. We draw people inside our projects to co-author the spaces we explore. These spaces cannot be seen from the outside, they don’t already exist, they must be built.

Recent works have considered processes of collective re-interpretation of sites, bringing about situations in which social interaction transforms the site into a social space. In 2010, a.a.s are continuing to form a set of interconnected groups who use schizo-productive fabulation to create alternatives and make new connections, affirming the nonsense this can produce.

We choose to build The Other Place as a space that is being constantly reconfigured and is, above all, a collective space.

‘We can escape the commonplace only by manipulating it, controlling it, thrusting it into our dreams or surrendering it to the free play of our subjectivity.’ – Raoul Vaneigem

You are invited to participate in this construction by getting involved with The Changelings, The Nomads, The Scientists, and other collectives.

The Other Place project will culminate in a three-month performance fiction residency at The New Art Gallery, Walsall, starting in mid-October 2010.
