Glitch Dérive

September 19th, 2011

As part of a videomancy glitch project we’re working on, we went on a dérive around Birmingham. We’d future visioned this while rehearsing, and all listened to the same recording as we drifted.

A couple of us had mobile cameras round our necks and we’re going to take the footage through a couple of other stages to bring out the deeper significance.

We chatted a bit sometimes, then fell into quiet contemplation. It was interesting to wander, in a group, but alone in your head with the music.

If there was any particular theme arising at this stage, it was perhaps the experience of liberating aimlessness you get in commercial spaces when your intention is just to be together, rather than to buy things.

It was something like being a teenager, not using the city for the purpose it has been designed, but turning it into a social drift space.
