Josie McCoy's paintings are portraits of characters from films and soap operas, often exploring the relationships between the mainly female characters.
She uses paint techniques to reference traditional techniques of painting as well as make the surface glow like a screen. Painting offers a version of reality in the same way as films do. Both suggest that mimicry can seem more real than that which it seeks to imitate.
