"The FuncArt Boardwalk/Causeway" by FuncArt
Performance & Installation (2005/2006)

The FuncArt Boardwalk/Causeway will be delivered to the gallery in its 'flat-pack' state. On the 'Private View' night FuncArt will send two 'Experts' to aid in the set-up of The FuncArt Boardwalk/Causeway. These Experts will draft in members of the audience as they enter the show, giving and guiding them in tasks to complete The FuncArt Boardwalk/Causeway. Once they have completed their task they will be given a 'Token' which will enable them to use The FuncArt Boardwalk/Causeway once it is completed. The users will be able to use The FuncArt Boardwalk/Causeway at their leisure and meet their fellow workers on it while looking down on any normal audience members who were not willing or able to join the workforce.

FuncArt - Design< >Craft< >Function = Art?
FuncArt is the Brand and the Company that the Conceptual Craftsman (Ed Orton) works within and in turn, it markets and makes his work. FuncArt is interested in bringing its concepts of built environment and an interactive workforce to create the joy of function within everything.

Ed Orton gained his Fine Art degree from DeMontford University in 2003, and is one of the organisers of the Leicester based DOT art group, who are taking part in the Sideshow Festival this year. He has also been involved in performances with ...seen... in Leicester and Reactor in Nottingham, as well as being part of shows in Leeds and Newcastle.
